This week we will be writing thank you letters to veterans to show our appreciation. Today we learned about the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day, and learned a little bit more about each branch of the military to help us write our letters. We are also continuing our study of Chris Van Allsburg's imaginative stories to eventually inspire us to write our own. Our spelling rule this week is adding suffixes (endings) to silent E words. If the suffix begins with a vowel you drop the E, and if the suffix begins with a consonant you keep the E. We are practicing this in class, but it can be a tricky rule so working on it extra at home will really help. We will be having our second spelling test on Friday, all of the patterns are listed at the bottom of this weeks spelling sheet.
In math, we are finishing up our work on factors. Students are going to be practicing the distributive property that we learned last week to help them multiple by harder numbers such as 6, 7, and 8. We will also learn about the associative property and work more with strip diagrams. In social studies we are learning about where we are in the world, how to read and create maps, and sharpening our scale skills.
Don't forget, Friday is a special assembly for Veterans day at 9am.
