This week marks the first of four (usually three) until the winter break. These weeks will be very full of learning, so please let me know if your child will be missing any days that you know if in advance.
Math- We are wrapping up division and moving on to two digit by one digit multiplication. This is a hard skill and may need some extra help at home. We talk a lot in class about how you can break the number into its expanded form and then multiply those easier numbers and add them back together in the end. Example 64x5--> 60x5 and 4x5--> 300+20
Language Arts- We are working to expand our imaginative stories with vivid details to really help the reader visualize what is happening. We are also working on our inferencing skills, identifying theme, and telling the difference between fact and opinion. We will have one more spelling test before the winter break, make sure to be practicing the patterns each night.
Science- we are beginning our study of Earth and Sky. This week we are rotating to each teacher to learn lessons about different types of natural disasters that change the earth. We will also be exploring different types of rocks and soils. We also get to learn about chemical and physical weathering!
