Wow. These six weeks have flown by, and yet I feel like we have been here for quite some time. With all the learning going on in third grade, most of our year ends up feeling this way.
This is a big week for us in language arts. We are starting our unit on personal narrative writing. Students are going to be creating their first writing process piece for the year, and that is a pretty big deal. We will be focusing on the brainstorming aspect this week and will move in to rough draft writing, revising, and editing in the following weeks. Our spelling pattern this week is trigraphs again, but this time our focus is on the words that begin with SCR and STR.
In math, we are going to review rounding again as it seems this skill is giving most students a hard time. We are also going to look at adding three digit numbers with models, by expanding, and with regrouping. This should be a good review for most students, but may be a newer skill for some.
We are starting our first science unit on energy, force, and motion. This week we will center around learning the vocabulary and exploring the question "what is energy?". Third grade focuses on light, heat/thermal, sound, and mechanical energies. Talk with your student at home about which kinds of energy you use to cook dinner or get ready for bed.
Don't forget, Tuesday is an early release and Wednesday is picture day, and scholastic orders are due on Friday (code: QBV8C).
